OD.11.237   and claimed to be the wife of Cretheus Aeolides.

OD.11.238   ἣ ποταμοῦ ἠράσσατ' Ἐνιπῆος θείοιο,
OD.11.238   She'd fallen in love with a river, divine Enipeus,

OD.11.239   ὃς πολὺ κάλλιστος ποταμῶν ἐπὶ γαῖαν ἵησι,
OD.11.239   who is by far the handsomest of rivers on the earth,

OD.11.240   καί ῥ' ἐπ' Ἐνιπῆος πωλέσκετο καλὰ ῥέεθρα.
OD.11.240   and she used to haunt Enipeus' beautiful streams.

OD.11.241   τῷ δ' ἄρα εἰσάμενος γαιήοχος ἐννοσίγαιος
OD.11.241   Earth-holder, the Earth-Shaker, appeared like Enipeus,

OD.11.242   ἐν προχοῇς ποταμοῦ παρελέξατο δινήεντος:
OD.11.242   and lay beside her in the mouth of the eddying river,

OD.11.243   πορφύρεον δ' ἄρα κῦμα περιστάθη, οὔρεϊ ἶσον,
OD.11.243   and a purple wave stood around them, high as a mountain,

OD.11.244   κυρτωθέν, κρύψεν δὲ θεὸν θνητήν τε γυναῖκα.
OD.11.244   curved over them, and hid the mortal woman and the god.

OD.11.245   λῦσε δὲ παρθενίην ζώνην, κατὰ δ' ὕπνον ἔχευεν.
OD.11.245   He loosed her maiden girdle, then poured sleep down upon her.

OD.11.246   αὐτὰρ ἐπεί ῥ' ἐτέλεσσε θεὸς φιλοτήσια ἔργα,
OD.11.246   Then after he'd completed his acts of love,

OD.11.247   ἔν τ' ἄρα οἱ φῦ χειρί, ἔπος τ' ἔφατ' ἔκ τ' ὀνόμαζε:
OD.11.247   he put his hand in hers, called out her name, and said:

OD.11.248   χαῖρε, γύναι, φιλότητι: περιπλομένου δ' ἐνιαυτοῦ
OD.11.248   ¿¿¿Woman, rejoice in our love. When the year goes round,

OD.11.249   τέξεις ἀγλαὰ τέκνα, ἐπεὶ οὐκ ἀποφώλιοι εὐναὶ
